Christmas and New Year’s Eve in Mallorca

At this time, the Passeig des Born shines in full splendour, the whole island is surrounded by a unique, cosy and contemplative atmosphere. At this time of the year, Mallorca is captivating in a very special way and shows itself from a quiet and very cordial side. Many of the people of Mallorca who live on the mainland visit their families and residents from all over Europe spend their holidays on the island. However, the small rush does not disturb Mallorca. The beautiful Christmas markets of Palma, Santa Ponca or Deia offer mulled wine and chestnuts as well as typical local specialities. In addition to handmade products, there are also extraordinary tasteful Christmas decorations. The shops invite you to go shopping before Christmas and throughout Palma you can admire the wonderful Christmas lights during a leisurely stroll through the city. On the 24th, the visit to the midnight mass Misa del Gallo is a highlight for the Catholics of Mallorca, who enjoy it together with the family.

On New Year’s Eve, they celebrate very elegant but also with a good sip of cava. Restaurants, hotels and clubs interrupt their winter break for this great celebration. It is strongly recommended to make a reservation, ideally a few weeks in advance. Mostly the gastronomy offers a special New Year’s Eve menu, the prices are between 70,00€ and 150,00€. The last minutes are celebrated in the crowded streets and squares of Palma, with every bells bells ringing, a grape is shoved into your mouth and you wish for something. It is an old tradition, only after the last uvas de la suerte (lucky grapes) is it celebrated and tasted, feliz Año Nuevo is wished.

For driving out the New Year’s Eve male we recommend a wonderful e-bike tour with clear air and pleasant temperatures. After a cold shower, the New Year feels really good.
